Sign of the Times

Earlier this week BMorg announced they will allow for ticket sales to be sold at the gate for last minute attendees. IMHO this development is an indication that sales are lower than expected. While many I've spoken to about this bitch that the return of this policy will increase the yahoo count, I have a hunch that crowds will be down and maybe this might even be a good year to go.

Earlier this summer I started a poll to see what the temperature was on this blog if people were going to the event. In an upcoming blog post I'll compare the results as voters weigh in to the countdown.

Wow not a good sign. Massively trimmed back art grant budget, drastically reduced art car registration, and low ticket sales. I mean yeah it's gonna be less populated, but the question is will this consolidate the awesome or will it consolidate the suckage?

I'm feeling it'll consolidate the suck but who knows. I mean certain tribes like Gigsville will still have their fun. Hell they never leave their camp anyway and still manage to have a good time.

IMO, it's always different! Yes the yahoos come, but some yahoos will always come whether we're partying during a recession or not. Frankly I'm glad that the city will be a bit smaller and less populated-- it was getting too big for me to feel comfortable. I think that the people who will scrape together the dough are the die-hard devotees-- the peeps whose year revolves around the Burn. I think that the tourists are the ones that are more likely to decide not to go when they feel the pinch.

I went last year. It was my first return in about 10 years. I was pretty shocked at how big it had become and found the scale a bit hard to deal with.

After last years dust, and insanely horrible departure (breaking down a mid-sized camp and vehicular issues) I was not interested in going again. I can't imagine I was the only one feeling that way.

Although a friend convinced me to I had to try again...

I doubt that the lack of at gate ticket sales instilled the "Oh noes!..Must not risk them selling out!". Its not Comic Con afterall. ;) However, I understand that the recession is what it is.

Honestly I never woud dream of buying at the gate. I kind of liked the idea of them cutting off "at the gate" sales figuring it might help fend off the yahoos. However if the recession really is killing sales, I dont blame them if they want to at least make an effort to fill every slot of the population quota that BLM limits them to. Someone has to pay the permit.

I been feeling like crud because I have this presale ticket and here I am struggling to get ready for the burn due to finances trying to hit me at the last second. If things continue to deal me dirty, I would be quite a sad person to see what I worked so hard for have to be sold off and postponed yet another year. Buying the presale ticket felt like I was supporting the event plus giving me a reminder that sits over my desk everyday, encouraging me to work hard and honest.
