In Loving Memory: Rik Sharaj

As we mentioned in a previous post, this blog is on hiatus until further notice.  However, we would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the passing yesterday of Rik Sharaj, a longtime member of both the Burning Man and Moontribe communities.

Rik was a master sitarist that performed at many events including the Glastonbury Festival, Burning Man, Mountain Air, LearningParty, Zenfest and Moontribe. He's played and recorded alongside stars like Stuart Copeland, Micky Hart, George Clinton, Michael Franti and Spearhead, and Zakir Hussain.  Rik has also worked with some of Southern California's best underground deejays such as Lorin, Solar Angel, and Odysseus.

BURNcast caught up with Rik just a month ago in Los Angeles at a party on 01/11/11. In that that brief reconnection Sharaj mentioned he was having health issues but he did not let on that it was life threatening. It's sad to realize that it would be our last time we would see him on this plane of existence.
